Made like none other vodka on the planet, and certified carbon neutral from day one
Dutch Barn Orchard Vodka has been created around two simple pillars: to make the world’s best vodka and do it in the most sustainable and ethical manner.
Andy Braithwaite, Managing Director at Ellers Farm Distillery, said:
“Our aim for Dutch Barn was simple yet profound: we want to make the best vodka in the world by being the best vodka for the world. In everything we do, we look to balance people, profit, and the planet, listening to what people are looking for in their choices and responding to them with a vodka that is not only exceptional in quality, but also has proven sustainability credentials to match”.
Dutch Barn was developed by Master Distiller Jamie Baggot, who has multiple awards to his name, including winning Best-in-the-World Vodka at the San Francisco Wine & Spirits Competition in 2010.
Made like no other vodka on the planet, Dutch Barn is tasted every 20 minutes as it evolves from British apples, balanced with a touch of potato spirit until it develops into a crisp, clean, and exceptionally smooth vodka.
Jamie Baggot, Master Distiller at Ellers Farm Distillery, said:
“Working on creating Dutch Barn over the last two years has been very exciting and I’m delighted that everyone can now enjoy this incredible vodka that we have created. Having the challenge of making Dutch Barn as sustainable as possible, whilst achieving the very best vodka possible, was a great adventure.”
Not only will Dutch Barn standout as one of the best vodkas in the world, but it will also stand out on shelves and in bars due to its unique lightweight brown bottle – a world’s first. This was a conscious decision, as this brown glass provides better protection to the vodka and is made with 60% recycled content with significantly lower carbon emissions as a result compared to typical clear glass used by most vodkas. In addition, the bottles are sourced from a local manufacturer, with the double benefit of reducing transport emissions and supporting a local Yorkshire business.
The Dutch Barn Orchard Vodka name comes from the Dutch Barn that was on the farm and has been preserved in the design of the distillery and the apple orchard being planted around the Ellers Farm Distillery. The distillery itself aims to set the standard for sustainability in the drinks industry by balancing people, profit, and the planet from day one, having already secured Pending B Corp® status.
The apples, one of the UK’s most sustainable crops, used to produce the vodka are 100% British. They have been sourced from an expert apple processor who sources locally to help minimise the carbon footprint as well as supporting British apple farmers.
The business is using 100% renewable electricity on the site, and while it does have carbon emissions from the LPG used to power the steam boiler (which are green hydrogen ready) and from its supply chain, these are being completely offset along with all other supply chain emissions. As part of our sustainable design choices, we have a closed loop cooling system, enabling us to recycle 97% of the water used in our cooling processes, which saves roughly 3 days’ water per week compared to alternative cooling methods.
Tabatha Hurst, Ellers Farm Distillery’s Head of Sustainability, spoke Dutch Barn launch:
“I am very excited to see Dutch Barn come to life, truly demonstrating our efforts to minimise our environmental impacts wherever we can. Whilst starting as certified carbon neutral, we are committed to decarbonising our business and supply chain as soon as we possibly can. As part of this we are members of the SME Climate Hub and The Climate Pledge where we have committed to reduce our carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 and to achieve net zero carbon by 2040 at the latest.”
Dutch Barn will be available in-store in major retailers as well as online from Amazon and the Dutch Barn website https://dutchbarn.com/ at a RRP £29 from the week commencing 21 March 2022.
The launch is supported by a multi-million-pound marketing campaign led by drinks agency YesMore, which is set to support ambitious first-year sales goals and build widespread brand awareness within the UK market within first year of trading.
