The UK’s No. 1 meat free brand*1 is launching Quorn Tomato and Mozzarella Escalopes and Quorn Mini Vegan Sausage Rolls, to expand its delicious and convenient meat free solutions across occasions.

Both new launches will also be the first meat free products to include NaviLens technology, in a move by Quorn to make its range more accessible and inclusive to blind and visually impaired shoppers.

Tomato and Mozzarella Escalopes (RRP: £2.65, 240g#) will first roll out from 12th August in Asda, then Tesco and Morrisons stores. Quorn Mini Vegan Sausage Rolls (RRP: £3.50, 500g#) on 20th August in Asda, with further roll outs in Morrisons and Sainsburys later in the year.

“We’re really proud to be the first meat free brand to add NaviLens technology to our packaging. As category leaders, we want to make our products as widely accessible as possible. NaviLens technology is a huge step in the journey towards making things like the weekly food shop a more inclusive and smoother experience for the visually impaired,” says Gill Riley, Marketing Director at Quorn Foods UK.

“Bringing new and delicious products to the market, alongside innovative technology, enables more shoppers to try meat free and helps us with our mission to provide great tasting food for people and for the planet. Our new launches are perfect for shoppers looking for simple, tasty ways to reduce their meat consumption, that won’t cost the earth. After all, Quorn is so tasty, why choose the alternative?”

The Tomato & Mozzarella Escalope is made with Quorn mycoprotein, topped with an oozy tomato and mozzarella sauce, and coated in crunchy breadcrumbs, created to offer even more variety and flavour choice in meat free.

Gill adds: “Easy and convenient meat free meal occasions are on the rise. With this new launch, we have an opportunity to bring more people into the category by providing simple, tasty, value for money meat free swaps, for the meals consumers know and love.”

It joins the successful Escalopes range, currently consisting of Cheese and Broccoli, Garlic and Mushroom, Mozzarella and Pesto and Emmental. These breaded mealtime staples have driven sales in excess of £9m*1 so far this year, and the new addition is guaranteed to delight shopper tastebuds.

“The new Mini Sausage Rolls are our first snacking launch in the frozen category and a great opportunity for retailers to provide more vegan options around social occasions and seasonal events. We expect the products to perform particularly well around the peak seasons of summer picnics and Christmas party season,” continues Gill.

Perfect for party sharing platters, the Mini Sausage Rolls are made with Quorn sausage filling, encased perfectly in pastry that’s all deliciously vegan. These two products are the first of 42 SKUs that will carry NaviLens QR codes over the next 12 months.

The barcodes used for NaviLens technology allow information on the ingredients, preparation instructions and recycling information to all be heard aloud through the shopper’s mobile device.

They can be read by smartphone devices up to 12x further away than standard QR codes and with no focus required, eliminating the need for a shopper to know the exact location of the code. This means they can find their favourite products more easily and key information on new products is more readily available, helping visually impaired shoppers to make better and easier purchase decisions.

Marc Powell, Head of Accessibility Innovation at the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), said: “We’re delighted that Quorn is introducing NaviLens technology onto their product packaging. This is a positive step in making products accessible for blind and partially sighted people and ensuring they have the same access and choice as our sighted peers.

“Quorn is the first vegetarian food brand to introduce the technology, and we’re pleased that this will bring further choice and independence to people living with sight loss.”
