The UK’s leading Caribbean food manufacturer Island Delight enjoyed huge success at the recent International Food Exhibition, which took place at London’s ExCeL exhibition and conference centre in March.
The IFE show provided the perfect platform to showcase the Island Delight products providing Cleone Foods the opportunity to meet not only decision makers to develop new business, but also give everyone the chance to sample the fantastic products. They were an instant hit and staff could barely keep up with demand for more patties and slices.
Cleone Foods began when its founder Wade Lyn moved to England from Jamaica and set out to bring the authentic taste of the Caribbean to the UK. Patties are at the heart of traditional Caribbean cuisine and part of every day life across the islands from Jamaica to Antigua. The recipe has remained the same for years, a short crust pastry filled with fresh ingredients like Chicken, Beef, Lamb, Saltfish, Vegetables and Caribbean spices then cooked until the pastry is golden.
The Birmingham-based company currently makes 120,000 patties every week, which are sold in supermarkets and shops across the UK. Island Delight patties currently account for over 55% of the UK Caribbean pattie market and boast an impressive national retail network which includes Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Iceland, Somerfield and Co-op. The Island Delight brand is branching out further with the introduction of new products, some of which were launched at the IFE show. The Island Delight savoury slices, a fusion of Caribbean cooking in a very British savoury slice. The range includes the Spicy Chicken, Spicy Beef, Spicy Lamb, Spicy Fish, Three Bean and Vegetable slices, which are made with the finest British ingredients fused with Caribbean inspired spices to create a delicious savoury snack.

Also launched at the IFE09 exhibition were the frozen multipacks, which contain 4 individual Caribbean patties. The new multipack has been developed following increased consumer demand for Caribbean products across the UK and the continued popularity of Island Delight’s authentic patties. As the British public’s appetite for Caribbean food continues to grow enormously, the new frozen multipack offers customers an easy way to buy several patties in one go.
This new package also enables retailers an easy way to stock Island Delight patties. The new multipack is actually a box, which will easily stack and can be kept frozen for up to 12 months making life simpler for everyone involved.
The Island Delight patties are also available in a smaller size – Cocktail Patties, ideal for buffets and special occasions or events. Cocktail patties are sold frozen baked and weigh approximately 50g, which works out to about a couple of bite sizes.
