Iceland’s Christmas campaign has been banned from TV because Clearcast, the ad vetting body has deemed it breaches political advertising rules, Richard Walker, Iceland MD told Radio 4’s Today show.

As part of its planned campaign Iceland signed with Greenpeace to adapt their animated short film featuring an orangutan, which is an endangered species, and the destruction of its rainforest habitat at the hands of palm oil growers. Earlier this year, Iceland became the UK’s first supermarket to pledge to remove palm oil from its own-brand foods.

While 14 shops are currently closing every day in UK high streets, Richard Walker said Iceland has opened 45 new stores this year.
