The food to go specialist says many hot snacking products come into their own at lunchtime, particularly for adults looking for hot, tasty alternatives to sandwiches that can be taken back to work and prepared quickly and conveniently.
The continuing decline of the lunchtime pub food market also means that more people are now looking at shops close to work for mid-day meal solutions.
KCF’s launch two years ago of the £10.8 million panini brand UGO’s Deli Café has revolutionized lunchtimes for many people, created new lunchtime profit opportunities and attracted many new consumers to the hot snacking category.
Aoife Kenny, Kepak Convenience Foods’ Business Development Director, says hot snacking products have plugged a gap in the lunch market.
“Many consumers are tucking into hot snacking products as they can enjoy them without interrupting their busy lunchtime schedules. They’re proving popular with people who have a limited amount of time, but also with people who simply want a tasty alternative to sandwiches, pies or pasties at lunchtime,” she says.
Kepak is set to increase its share of the mid-day meal market with its two latest product launches.
In addition to a new variant of UGO’s Deli Café – Chicken, Mozzarella & Black Olive Tapenade on a deliciously-flavoured tomato and herb panini – the market leader in the UK’s £107 million hot snacking category is launching a new range, Rustlers Hot Subs, increasing demand for the UK’s best-selling hot snacking range at lunchtime.
The Hot Subs range comprises two products – Southern Fried Chicken with Creamy Mayo and Tangy Meatballs with Tomato and Herb Sauce.
As with all KCF products, both Rustlers Hot Subs and the new UGO’s Deli Café panini have a longer than average shelf live, compared to the average pies, pasties and sandwich products available. This results in a longer sales opportunity for retailers and less waste, an issue many retailers are becoming increasingly conscious of in the current economic climate
