Sales of goats’ cheese have seen a healthy rise in recent years, as more and more British consumers choose it over other cheese varieties. Delamere Dairy has seen volumes grow 30% in the last 2 years and according to a survey conducted by the British Cheese Board, goats’ cheese now ranks in the top ten of British consumers’ favourite cheese types.
“One of the reasons for this growth in popularity is the emergence of celebrity chefs and their cookery books which have helped to drive sales and bring goats’ cheese to the fore,” comments Ed Salt, Commercial Director at Delamere Dairy.
“It is also hard to find a restaurant menu now where goats’ cheese doesn’t appear somewhere – either as a starter, as part of a main course or on the cheeseboard – and perhaps this is encouraging consumers to give it a try at home.”
