Packaging across 6-packs of Discos, Roysters and Frisps reduced by 100 tonnes

KP Snacks today announces a further investment in flow wrap equipment to reduce plastic packaging across three of its popular Everyday Value (EDV) brands: Discos, Roysters and Frisps. The flow wrapping process will see a 35% plastic packaging reduction for 6-packs across these three brands, equivalent to 100 tonnes of packaging saved annually.  Since 2014, KP Snacks has removed 1,100 tonnes of plastic packaging, making changes across its portfolio.

Rolling into stores from February, the new flow-wrapped packs follow KP Snacks’ commitment to use as little plastic packaging as possible in line with its People & Planet strategy. Launched last year, KP Snacks’ People & Planet responsible business programme outlines ambitious goals to ensure the business makes a positive impact on the natural world.

Minimising the volume of packaging used across Roysters, Frisps and Discos 6-packs will also translate to 620 fewer lorry journeys annually, with more products able to be transported at once. This will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transporting the products.

As well as appealing to increasingly environmentally conscious consumers, the new flow-wrapped packs will create more space on shelves, enabling retailers to display extra stock and drive sales.

Worth £140m RSV, KP Snacks’ Everyday Value Range continues to perform well, growing +9.5%[1]. EDV brands such as Discos, Frisps and Roysters appeal to consumers by offering a familiar snack that creates a sense of nostalgia. In addition, as the cost of living remains high and shoppers seek out affordable treats, EDV brands offer an accessible price point.

John Leslie, Packaging Technology Manager, KP Snacks, says: “Protecting the environment is one of the core pillars of our People and Planet programme, and we are committed to taking a responsible and proactive approach to safeguarding nature. We remain focused on reducing both our plastic packaging and carbon emissions in any way that we can.”

Amy Heap, Marketing Manager, KP Snacks says: “Discos, Frisps and Roysters form a key part of our EDV range which is continuing to outperform the overall market as recessionary pressures linger. The new packs will continue to support the growth of these popular brands, offering snacks that are tasty, affordable and more eco-friendly.”

The new flow-wrapped packs include Frisps Variety 6-pack, Roysters T-Bone Steak 6-pack and Discos Variety 6-pack which all have an RRP of £1.50. Launching in a 6-pack format for the first time in March, Discos Salt & Vinegar, the leading Discos flavour, will also be flow-wrapped to deliver additional packaging savings.

Discos is one of KP Snacks’ fastest-selling brands, currently growing +39.7%, while Roysters is growing +7.1% and Frisps is growing +4.3%[2].
