New data disclosed today shows that Lidl GB achieved over £116m switching gains from all supermarkets over Christmas, making it the only grocer to win spend from all other supermarkets over the festive season.
The discounter achieved switching gains of £51.6m from Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda. Meanwhile Lidl secured £12.2m switching spend from Aldi. The remaining switching spend came from the premium supermarkets and other food outlets, amounting to £52.3m.
This performance comes off the back of a record Christmas for Lidl GB, with sales up +12%[2], and industry leading market share growth of +0.5% to 7.7%.[3]
Commenting on the discounter’s Christmas trading results last week, Lidl CEO Ryan McDonnell, said: “I’m incredibly proud of our performance this Christmas in what was the busiest trading period in our history. As the fastest-growing supermarket in the country, we welcomed more customers through our doors than ever before and ensured that we delivered the quality and price promise they have come to expect from us.
