NPD taps into growing demand for 100% natural, convenient, plant-based proteins

Better Nature, the plant-based challenger on a mission to get more people eating all-natural Indonesian food Tempeh, is launching a new range of Marinated Tempeh Pieces that caters to growing demand for natural and convenient options in the plant-based category.

The brand, which last month secured a £700k Seed Plus round to fuel retail growth for its tempeh range in the UK and Europe, will roll out its new range in January with a new listing at Holland & Barrett, as well as distribution via Allplants, Gopuff, Mindful Chef and Selfridges.

Better Nature, which was founded in 2019, specialises in tempeh, a 100% natural and nutritious cultured plant-based food with double the protein content of tofu.

The new Marinated Tempeh Pieces, made simply from tempeh and a carefully-selected blend of oils and spices, are available in 3 sizzling flavours – Mediterranean, Curry and BBQ – and can be pan fried or baked to create tasty dishes in a matter of minutes, from curries and stir fries to tacos and wraps.

They’re also 100% natural, gluten-free, and count as 1 of your 5 a day.

Elin Roberts, co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer of Better Nature, says:

“With meat-free category growth slowing, we know that it isn’t delivering on what customers are looking for, which is health. A huge opportunity has opened up for 100% natural plant-based foods, like tempeh, that deliver on both health and convenience.

“Our marinated Tempeh range offers health-conscious, time-poor consumers in the UK something new – tasty plant-based foods that are quick and easy to prepare, whilst also being completely natural, packed with protein and fibre, gluten-free and one of your five a day.”

“Unlike tofu, tempeh is still a relatively new concept for UK consumers, so our new Tempeh Pieces introduce people to tempeh in a convenient and accessible way… We’re trying to break down barriers to showcase tempeh as a delicious and versatile plant-based food and create mainstream appeal.”

“Tempeh offers supermarkets an opportunity to better appeal to customer needs and fuel meat-free category growth as we head into 2023.”

In addition to the new Tempeh Pieces, Better Nature is also relaunching its popular Smoky Tempeh Rashers with a new and improved recipe, and updating its packaging across the full product range to showcase its 100% natural, high protein credentials.

NEW! Better Nature Tempeh Pieces will be stocked at Holland & Barrett, Selfridges, Amazon and www.betternaturetempeh.co from January 2023, with more stockists to follow. RRP £?3.29.
