Since February Asda Foundation, has been inviting local community groups to come forward to apply for funding to help celebrate the Coronation weekend.

Through local activities, Asda Foundation aims to enable local groups to bring people together, celebrate, reduce loneliness and build a sense of belonging in communities and creating long lasting memories.

Groups have been invited to apply for funding to help cover the costs of food, refreshments, activities and entertainment.

Asda Foundation are funding over 100 Coronation events across the UK, donating over £36,00, helping bring thousands of people together over the weekend. Local community centres, groups and resident associations have all applied for these grants ranging to mark the occasion.

Two of the groups benefitting from a grant include, Thrummy Drummer Dementia Group, based in Thurmaston, Leicester, the group brought all their members together to put on an afternoon of activities after they received a grant for £400. Highland Heathers in Kilkeel, Northern Ireland didn’t have the budget to bring their group together, but thanks to a £400 Asda Foundation grant they were able to get involved in the celebrations.
