Best known for its wide range of 4-way forklifts, sideloaders and other innovative materials handling solutions such as its Straddle Carrier, Combilift launched its Combi-WR and multidirectional Combi-WR4 “Walkie Reach” pedestrian trucks earlier this year.

Combi-WR“We developed our first pedestrian trucks in response to feedback from the back of store sectors for a cost effective smaller unit for handling lighter loads,” says Combilift MD Martin McVicar. ”In areas where the general public or employees may be present these models offer a very safe way of handling pallets and longer loads  in confined areas.”

Incorporating the benefits of AC technology in its traction, pump and steering motors, the WR models have a lift height of 4.2m and a load capacity of 1,450kg. With electronic power steering, pantograph and side shift functions it is the only pedestrian reach stacker range which can work in an aisle-width of 2.1m pallet to pallet.

The multi-position tiller (patent pending) incorporates push button rotation of the rear wheel parallel to the chassis for placing and picking in the aisle. This enables the operator to remain at the side of the truck rather than at the rear, improving forward visibility. The risk of incidents in tight and / or narrow aisles is reduced as the operator is not positioned between the racking and the truck. In order to rotate the rear wheel parallel to the tiller the operator merely needs to push the button again.

2-speed operation is controlled by a rabbit/turtle switch, and speeds can also be adjusted or customised to suit the level of the operator’s experience.

The ergonomic and safety benefits of these new models have been recognised by the FLTA which have shortlisted them in both these categories for the 2014 Awards for Excellence.
