press-release-copy1Tesco Chairman David Reid was among many high-profile guests at the launch of a two-week promotional push for Thai fresh produce.

The Healthy & Tasty from Thailand initiative was unveiled at Tesco’s West Cromwell Road store in Kensington last month, to an audience that included Secretary to the Minister of Commerce, Mr. Praphol Milindhachinda, Chief Advisor to the Minister of Commerce, Prof Dr Chaiya Yimwilai, Thailand’s Ambassador Mr Kitti Wasinondh and Sunthorn Arunanondchai, Chairman of Tesco Lotus, the supermarket chain’s retail brand in Thailand.

The initiative took place in stores between 31st May to 14th June, and included fresh fruit from Thailand. Tasting events were held in 70 Tesco stores, where trained demonstrators introduced shoppers to Thai fruits such as mango, rambutans, lychees and dragon fruit. This was supported by a customer information booklet, containing details of the fruit and a competition to win a 4-night holiday to Thailand, courtesy of Thai Airways International. The holiday promotion also appears on packs of Thai fresh produce.

A further holiday to Thailand was up for grabs for Tesco employees, through a competition in The One, Tesco’s in-house newspaper.

The promotional activity was organised by Thailand’s Department of Export Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and supported by Thai Airways International.
