Ethical chocolate brand celebrates first national supermarket listing
Organic and eco-conscious chocolate brand Seed and Bean has announced a new listing with retailer Ocado which will see eight of its adventurously flavoured bars available online from now, giving the brand wider UK distribution than ever before.
Since launch in 2005, the British handmade chocolate producer has been at the forefront of the green movement and six years ago now, was the very first bar to move to fully compostable foil. Seed and Bean’s 22-strong range of organic, Fairtrade and vegan-certified chocolate is already available through Whole Foods Market, Planet Organic, John Lewis Food Hall and WHSmith, and this new Ocado listing will see the brand’s dark chocolate with Cornish Sea Salt, Coconut & Raspberry, Mandarin & Ginger, Lemon & Cardamom, Aromatic Fennel, Lavender, Sweet Orange & Thyme and milk chocolate with Sea Salt & Lime going live online at £2.69 each.
Owner of Seed and Bean, Oliver Shorts, commented: “We’re proud to have led the way back in 2013 as the first chocolate brand to switch to fully compostable foil. This focus on ethical credentials has continued to pay dividends and we’re thrilled to see our bars newly online with Ocado this month. Whilst flawless ethical standards are central to what we do, we know that taste remains the most important factor for most consumer and we’re continually innovating to bring different, adventurous flavours to market, which inject some fun into the super-premium chocolate sector.”
Each bar is crafted with cocoa beans from some of the world’s finest Fairtrade producing regions and made in the UK using all natural, Soil Association Organic ingredients (which is notably a higher and more stringent regulation than normal organic standards). The brand not only exclusively uses ethically sourced ingredients but is also dedicated to using fully recyclable paper wrapping and compostable foil to keep the chocolate fresh. Seed and Bean is the only chocolate brand in the UK to boast these impressive credentials and, as such, is well positioned to support retailers in offering a truly ethical and eco-aware product which has strong appeal in the current consumer climate.
