Later this year the Swiss company Hermes Sweeteners, manufacturers of the sweetener brand Hermesetas, is to launch in the UK the first ever table top sweetener derived from a plant, according to their head office in Zurich, Switzerland.
The new sweetener, Hermesetas SteviaSweet, is made from an extract of the Stevia plant and was recently launched in Australia, France and Switzerland with remarkable success. Now Hermes is pushing ahead with the product’s development in the expectation that full EU approval for Stevia for use as a food ingredient will be finalised before the end of 2011. Hermes was the first international producer and marketer of table top sweeteners to introduce a complete range of Stevia based products and this understanding of consumers’ preferred choice will underpin their UK launch with a range consisting of tablet, granulated and sachet formats.
