flahavans-organic-oatsFlahavan’s, Ireland’s leading porridge oats producer, is celebrating this week after being given two gold stars at the highly regarded Great Taste Awards 2010. Known as the ‘Oscars’ of the food world, these prestigious awards involve a panel of over 300 expert judges including well-known chefs e.g. Mark Hix, food writers and industry experts, who recognise the finest quality food products from the UK and Ireland.

This year’s awards played host to over 1,300 food producers who entered a total of 6000 products. Flahavan’s scooped two gold stars in the ‘Luxury breakfast cereal, to be cooked’ category, for its creamy texture and taste, one star for Flahavan’s Organic Porridge Oats and the second for Flahavan’s Organic Jumbo Oats.

The Flahavan’s family has been milling oats for six generations. All of the oats used in the making of Flahavan’s are grown locally, chosen from a select panel of growers and put through a unique milling process that cooks the oats twice, and this is the key to Flahavan’s unique, award winning creaminess.

Says John Flahavan, Chairman of Flahavan’s: “For two of our products to win in such a competitive category is great news. We are absolutely delighted to have won two gold stars particularly as they acknowledge the distinctive creamy texture and taste that Flahavan’s is so well known for”.
