GroceryAid is proud to recognise the backing it receives from organisations across the industry with its annual Awards. Announced today, a total of 271 companies have received a GroceryAid Award for their support to the charity throughout 2020. This is a growth of 24% on 2019 and is a great testament to how the industry has leant in despite an exceptionally challenging year.

Without their support, grocery colleagues would not have access to the emotional, financial and practical help they deserve when times get tough, which is needed now more than ever. The transparent and inclusive scheme allows companies big and small to demonstrate how they have supported GroceryAid and in turn industry colleagues in three different ways:

  • AWARENESS – Helping the charity by raising awareness so that colleagues know about the GroceryAid support available to them
  • FUNDRAISING – Supporting events that raise funds for the charity
  • VOLUNTEERING – Our volunteers are key contributors to the charity and there are many ways you can get involved to help

59 organisations secured a Gold Award from completion of eight activities across all three of these areas. 35 secured a Silver Award (six activities in two areas) and 35 achieved a Bronze Award (four activities in two areas).

142 organisations were acknowledged as Recognised Supporters for completing at least two activities.

Steve Barnes, Chief Executive at GroceryAid comments: “Without the backing of these amazing organisations we would not have been able to help more than 17,000 colleagues who found themselves in need of our emotional, financial and practical help when times got tough last year. As our country and industry move into another challenging year, I am extremely grateful for their continued support.”

It has been another year of change and development at GroceryAid and more colleagues were helped emotionally, financially and practically than ever before by the industry charity. In 2020 GroceryAid saw a 55% increase in applications for financial support, crisis grants paid up by 87% and 74% more calls to our helpline. The number of Relate counselling sessions delivered has also doubled.

The GroceryAid Helpline is available 24/7, 365 days a year: 08088 021 122
