Ireland Chairman, Julian Edwards.

The presentation of the award was made at a gala dinner on 16 November, during this year’s Catering Equipment Suppliers’ Association (CESA) Annual Conference held at the De Vere Wokefield Estate Hotel, Reading. The judging panel agreed that the Aircell® open front, Grab & Go cabinet had achieved excellence and innovation, demonstrating tight temperature control to keep food fresher for longer and delivering tangible energy savings.

These factors will help contribute to a more sustainable environment. Presenting the award to Adande’s Sales Director, Karl Hodgson, FCSI UK & Ireland Chairman, Julian Edwards CFSP, stated: “Adande has brought an open front cabinet to the market, which not only keeps food fresher for longer, reducing food wastage, but also achieves a significant reduction in energy consumption.”

The award comes less than a month after the unveiling of the company’s prototype ‘Crivat’ Aircell® refrigerated Grab & Go cabinet at the international hospitality show, HOST, held in Milan, where it was well received by end users and OEMs.

FCSI recognition of the Aircell® Grab & Go cabinet also comes hot on the heels of field trials of the prototype product at Le Pain Quotidien food to go outlet in Soho, London. Over a three week test period, energy consumption of the Aircell® cabinet was measured as 33% less than the store’s existing open front multi deck display. This reduction in energy consumption would represent an annual saving in electricity costs of £365. During the same trial, cabinet air temperature was measured to a bandwidth of 4°C in the Aircell® model, compared with an average range of 11°C in the store’s existing open front multi deck. The narrow temperature range of the Aircell® model helps to maintain the quality and fresh appearance of food to go, providing a more enjoyable eating experience for the customer and reducing waste.

Adande’s Sales Director, Karl Hodgson, commented: “This prestigious award further endorses the credentials of Aircell® open front cabinet technology, highlighting its tangible benefits for the display of chilled food to go in foodservice and convenience retailing operations. We are now preparing for the full commercial launch in the first quarter of 2018.”

Aircell® works by dividing the refrigerated display case’s merchandising envelope into separate air flow managed cells with small, low pressure air columns. Each cell has its own air curtain, which is more efficient than a full case height air curtain on a conventional multi deck case.
