This is the second time that Leeds-based Union Industries has replaced a door at the Slough site of Ragus, which has been in business for more than 90 years.

The company has been so impressed with Union’s doors that is has subsequently placed an order for a second Ramdoor for its facility.

Ragus, which has been established since 1928, is a leading manufacturer of crystalline sugars, syrups and treacles for sectors including baking, cereals, confectionery, sauces and preserves, beverages, desserts and pharmaceuticals.

The first door Union replaced was on Ragus Sugar’s Finished Goods facility, where the company needed a solution that was robust and able to work consistently without holding up the Forklift trucks for which this opening was crucial.

The most recent door replacement was on Ragus Sugar’s Dry Production opening, after the door that had been in place was deemed irreparable.

Here, Union Industries installed one of its bespoke rapid-roller door designs, the Matadoor, which has been fitted under a fire shutter, but also designed in a bespoke way to allow for the door to be fully washed down.

Union also designed and manufactured a control panel, which meets rigorous standard ratings, relating to the levels of sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures against intrusion from foreign bodies, such as dirt and moisture.

The Matadoor is for internal openings and is ideally suited for high-volume traffic, whether Forklift trucks or personnel.  This door is manufactured from heavy duty materials and components and is classed as ideal for high-use internal doorways by all types of traffic, and where extreme reliability is required.

One of its standard features is a ‘Crash-Out and Auto-Reset’ system, which reduces bottom beam damage and keeps downtime to a minimum.

Peter Eastick, Director of Ragus Sugars, which is located on Yeovil Road, Slough, said: “We needed a high specification and reliable door system to meet our exacting requirements and were very pleased with the excellent performance of the first door that Union Industries installed.

“Union Industries’ high standards and its focus on tailoring its service and products to meet a customer’s needs meant we had no hesitation in placing an order with the company when we needed a new door for our dry goods facility.”

Mike Waters, Technical Sales Engineers at Union Industries, said: “The feedback we received from Ragus, after we installed the first door, was that it was brilliant and met its rigorous requirement and, as a result, the company approached us to replace another existing door.

“We pride ourselves on supplying high quality, resilient, reliable high speed roller doors, which are tailored to meet a client’s individual needs.”
