acorns2Staff at Midlands-based Oakland International were jubilant as they handed over a cheque for £5,000 to local children’s charity, Acorns Children’s Hospice, after taking part in a charity sponsored skydive.

Team Oakland faced personal challenges as they prepared for their jump, but everyone was determined to go through with it and to raise as much as they could to help the hospice.

Oakland’s Wholesale Account Manager, Lisa Lloyd-Smith said of the team’s achievement: “It was an immense personal challenge, and we were all delighted to have been able to raise so much for such a great charity.”

A specialist in the supply chain arena of warehousing and logistics, Oakland International has raised a total of £6,000 for the charity this year, and would encourage other businesses to look at how they could support a charity such as Acorns.

Lucy Shepherd, Acorns Treks and Challenges Officer, said: “The lifeline we provide to local life limited children and their families is free of charge but as a charity, we have to raise over 70% of the £6m plus needed per year to run the hospices ourselves.

“We rely on voluntary donations and simply wouldn’t be able to help so many children and families without the support of companies such as Oakland International. The dedication they’ve shown to the charity in completing the skydive is tremendous, and I’d like to thank them on behalf of Acorns.”
