- Lidl reveals that shoppers have already been stocking up ahead of Coronation celebrations
- Sales of Lidl quiches up 33% as customers take inspiration from official Coronation dish
- Champagne sales increase by almost 50% as people get ready to raise a toast to the King
- British buffet favourites also get a boost, with Mini Scotch Eggs and Melton Mowbray’s up 15 and 10 per cent respectively
Lidl GB has revealed a jump in sales of key items including quiche and champagne, as people across the country gear up for the Coronation celebrations.
Sales of the discounter’s premium Deluxe Quiches have climbed by a third (33%) in the past month, as shoppers take inspiration from King Charles and the Queen Consort’s official recipe. With flavours including Spinach, Red Pepper & Feta and Balsamic Onion & Mature Cheddar, Lidl’s quiches differ slightly from the official dish and cost just £2.79.
As the big day approaches, British buffet favourites have also seen a boost, with sales of Lidl’s Chef Select Mini Scotch Eggs (£1.49) and Chef Select Mini Melton Mowbray Pork Pies (£1.99) seeing a 15% and 10% uplift respectively, month on month.
Meanwhile, shoppers are stocking up on champagne for the celebrations, with sales up by nearly 50% during the same period and Lidl’s Carpentier Champagne Brut (£13.99) increasing by almost two thirds (64%) alone, as people across the country get ready to raise a glass to the new King.
It’s not just food and drink Brits have been buying in for the big weekend; Lidl sold one of its Coronation mugs every five seconds on the first day of sale, along with enough bunting to line the Coronation procession route 75 times over.
A Lidl GB spokesperson commented: “While it’s clear that Lidl shoppers have already started getting in their celebratory essentials, there’s still ample opportunity for those who have left it until now to get what they need for the weekend’s festivities. From picnic essentials to street party favourites, and premium produce that will add a touch of regal flair to any dinner party, Lidl customers will be able to eat like Kings and Queens, without needing a royal budget.”
All of Lidl GB’s 960 plus stores will open as normal on the Saturday and Sunday of the Coronation weekend. On the Bank Holiday Monday, stores across England and Wales will open between 8am and 8pm, whilst stores in Scotland will remain open as normal. Some store opening times may vary and customers are advised to check the store finder on Lidl’s website, for details on their local Lidl.
Percentage increases based on internal Lidl GB data: units sold during the last weekend of April (29th and 30th) versus the last weekend in March (25th and 26th).
