A survey of the UK’s retail industry has revealed a lack of understanding about waste management that could be stopping businesses saving thousands of pounds a year.
According to phs Wastekit, which supplies balers and compactors to some of the UK’s biggest retailers, 20% of its survey’s retail respondents did not own or rent any waste management equipment.
“Using a baler or compactor for recycled or general waste significantly reduces the volume of waste you are dealing with” said Jason Smith, Managing Director of phs Wastekit (pictured). “This, in turn, reduces your waste disposal costs by minimising the number of journeys needed to remove your waste.
“Not only does it save you a lot of money, it helps to create a tidier environment in the workplace and deals with your waste in a more sustainable way.
“It’s one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to reduce your carbon footprint and boost your green credentials.
“There’s even money to be made from your waste. Cardboard is a sought-after commodity and balers offer income opportunities to retailers. Using a baler allows you to bale and sell your waste cardboard to recycling companies, bringing in extra revenue.”
phs Wastekit, which is part of the phs Group, supplies high quality baler and compactor machines and servicing and maintenance packages right across the UK.
phs Wastekit is offering a free Waste Saving Audit and free trial of any machine to help retail businesses identify the savings that could be made.
