Four employees at cash handling experts Volumatic have smashed their £350 fundraising target for Cancer Research UK, raising over £500 so far through its ‘Plank a Day’ challenge this October.

With each participant completing a plank exercise every day throughout the month, the team is determined to keep the donations coming and raise as much as possible to support vital cancer research.

Repairs Technician Skye Harris brought the team together after several members of her family and close friends were diagnosed with cancer. She is joined by Shopfloor Supervisor Nikki Carty, Events & CRM Technician Sonou Rakkar and Chief Commercial Officer Martin Smith.

This is the second Cancer Research UK fundraising challenge that Skye and Nikki have taken on in 2026, following their successful completion of ‘100 squats a day’ earlier this year. For their latest challenge, they recruited Sonou and Martin, making Martin the first member of Volumatic’s leadership team to take part in this kind of charity challenge.

Planking involves holding a static, push-up-like position to build core strength and stability, with participants choosing how long to hold their plank each day.

Skye said: “I wanted to raise even more money for CRUK this year and I am really grateful to my fellow team members from Volumatic who agreed to take on this challenge with me.

“I must admit, planking every day is brutal! It’s so much harder than the ‘100 squats a day’ challenge, but the support at work and from my friends and family has been amazing, so we will keep going and raise as much money as we can for CRUK. It’s a charity very close to my heart, and cancer affects so many of us these days that it’s so important to do our bit to help vital research and help save more lives.”

Having already exceeded its original target, the team is encouraging further donations to help raise as much as possible before the challenge ends on 31 October. Donations can be made at fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/team/volumatic-team.
