Yesterday we were delighted to welcome the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP, to our New Cross Gate store following his Spring Statement. The Chancellor was greeted by Sainsbury’s Chief Executive Simon Roberts and Retail & Digital Director Clodagh Moriarty and met with the store manager, store colleagues and customers.
In the Spring Statement the Chancellor announced numerous measures to tackle the rising cost of living, including cutting fuel duty by 5p until March 2023 and increasing the National Insurance threshold. We welcome the Chancellor’s announcement on fuel which will save motorists money and we are passing the cut to fuel duty to our customers at the pumps across every single one of our 315 forecourts.
We know that many of our customers are finding their household budgets under pressure and Sainsbury’s is committed to helping them as much as possible on the cost of living. We’ve invested ahead of our competitors over the last 18 months to keep our food prices low, particularly on the products that we know matter most to our customers. We recently lowered the prices on hundreds of everyday products and customers can continue to find great value through our Price Lock promise, where we hold the prices of over 2,000 products for at least eight weeks, and our Sainsbury’s Quality, Aldi Price Match campaign.
We’re determined to offer our customers the best possible value on the food they buy every week, with no compromise on quality.
