Finsbury Food Group is expanding its Little Big Cake range with the launch of a strawberry matcha flavoured cake arriving exclusively in Tesco stores nationwide from 31st August.

Inspired by matcha lattes which have been taking coffee shops and social media feeds by storm, this new cake has been developed with millennial and gen z consumers in mind. The cake, called I Like You Berry Matcha, transforms one of the biggest drinks trends to the supermarket aisle in a unique way.

Standing taller than a traditional celebration cake, the four-layer, five-inch diameter cake has a narrower profile inspired by the shape of a matcha take-away cup. It features alternating vanilla and pink sponge, and is layered with strawberry jam as well as matcha, white chocolate and strawberry frosting, finished with a dusting of matcha powder.

Each layer has been designed to bring something different, allowing the strawberry, matcha, vanilla and white chocolate flavour profiles to shine through individually before coming together in every slice.

Weighing 970g, serving up to 12 people and available with an RRP of £16, the cake is a ‘matcha’ made in heaven for birthdays, get-togethers and smaller celebration moments. Its eye-catching green, pink and white design makes it the perfect option for taking to a friend’s house or sharing on your social feed.

The launch from Finsbury Food Group aims to fill a gap for shoppers who may have outgrown traditional character cakes but still want something colourful, contemporary and worthy of a place on the grid. As matcha continues its evolution from a Japanese ritualistic ingredient to a mainstream trend, Finsbury is giving more shoppers the chance to discover it in an accessible and joyful format.

Kimberley Curtis, Brand Manager at Finsbury Food Group “Finsbury’s own brand, Little Big Cake, gives us the freedom to look at what’s happening across food culture and turn those trends into something that’s never been done before”

Ross Lowrey-Heywood, Innovation Development Manager at Finsbury Food Group, said: “Matcha is no longer a niche ingredient. It has become one of the biggest coffee shop trends of the moment, embraced for its flavour, colour, ritual and unmistakable aesthetic. Coffee shops have been leaning into cake for some time, so it felt only right that cake should lean into matcha.

“With this cake, we wanted the individual flavours and colours to stand out. It’s vibrant, playful and completely different from anything else in the supermarket cake aisle. We’ve taken the matcha trend and reimagined it as a celebration cake and we think shoppers are going to like it very matcha!”

The Little Big Cake brand was launched by speciality bakery manufacturer, Finsbury Food Group, in January 2026 when it brought the first cake bento box to market for UK supermarket shoppers.
