This morning Sainsbury’s unveiled its new Avon Street Local store within the Box Makers Yard development in Bristol. Situated beneath the brand-new apartment block, the store will offer a convenient place for nearby residents to pick up their shopping and will be open from 7am-11pm, seven days a week.

The new Sainsbury’s Local, which measures 2,714 sq. ft. in size, will feature both own-brand and branded high quality, great value products including fresh food, fruit and veg, groceries and household staples. The store also has a Costa coffee machine and fresh bakery where customers can pick up bread and pastries to-go.

Customers will have the option to use Mobile Pay or SmartShop, Sainsbury’s scan, pay and go technology. This enables them to pay using their smartphone, avoid waiting at the till and checkout more easily and conveniently. The new store will also provide an Argos Click and Collect point within the first two months of opening, allowing customers to order Argos products online before collecting instore whenever it suits them.

Sainsbury’s is committed to supporting the communities it serves and of the 21 colleagues that make up the Bristol Avon Street team, 12 are new to the company. All colleagues will play an active role in the local area and the store will connect with local charity Addiction Recovery to ensure that any surplus food from the store is redistributed to those in the community who need it most.

The new store team will also support Sainsbury’s nationwide charity and community programmes and will join thousands of Sainsbury’s colleagues to take part once again in Comic Relief and help to raise funds towards Red Nose Day 2022, which this year takes place on 18th March. Over the past 23 years Sainsbury’s contributions to the charity have totalled over £145 million, donations that have been used to help more than 1.5 million people in the UK and 12.3 million people around the world.

Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury’s Property Director, said: “The store looks brilliant as part of this new modern development and we’re delighted to offer residents a convenient, great value place to pick up their essentials.”

Richard Troake, Sainsbury’s Bristol Avon Street Local Store Manager, said: “My team and I have been really looking forward to today’s opening and we couldn’t be more pleased with our new store. We hope customers are as excited as we are about this great new addition to the local community and we can’t wait to become a valued part of it.”
