Sainsbury’s Local in Countesswells welcomed its first customers this morning after local primary school pupils cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony, to celebrate the store’s arrival in the growing community to the west of Aberdeen.

The new 2,503 sq. ft Sainsbury’s Local is now open from 7am-11pm seven days a week and is conveniently located in the community’s first Neighbourhood Centre, next to where the new Countesswells Primary School will be situated.

The store will offer people who live and work in the area a wide range of fresh food, fruit and vegetables as well as branded and own-brand groceries and household products. Bread and pastries will be baked every day in the store bakery and customers will have the opportunity to pick up a fresh coffee from a self-service Costa coffee machine. The store will also include a Sainsbury’s Bank ATM for the convenience of Countesswells residents.

Sainsbury’s Property Director, Patrick Dunne, said: “I’m delighted that Sainsbury’s is the first retailer to become part of the exciting new community in Countesswells. Our passion for great quality food, convenience, value and excellent service makes us a natural fit for the town and we’re very pleased to be welcoming our new Local into Sainsbury’s long established Scottish estate which now has over 130 stores and over 9,000 colleagues.”

Sainsbury’s Aberdeen Countesswells Local Store Manager, Annette Henderson, said: “The store looks fantastic and we’re sure customers will love the product ranges on offer. My team has worked hard to get the store ready and we’re now really looking forward to welcoming and serving the people of Countesswells.”

Countesswells now has around 600 new homes on site and the award-winning development boasts extensive landscaped grounds including the Cults Burn Park, a playpark and a community orchard.

Alex Goodfellow, Director of Countesswells Development Limited added: “Sainsbury’s arrival in Countesswells marks another key milestone in our commitment to delivering a highly attractive community that combines the best of modern living with a tranquil, rural setting.

“This investment in the new community supports local jobs and provides a much-needed local supermarket, which we know will be welcomed by residents.”

Sainsbury’s is committed to being at the heart of the communities it serves and the 22 colleagues that make up the Countesswells team will play an active role in the area. Scottish charities that Sainsbury’s has recently supported include Aberdeen Cyrenians and Integrate Scotland and the store will also support Sainsbury’s nationwide community programmes and charity partners.
