The High Wycombe-based company – which distributes a host of the nation’s favourite fine food brands, including Mary Berry’s dressings, Crespo olives and Starbucks coffee to leading retailers, wholesalers and foodservice outlets throughout the UK – was given the prestigious accolade at a gala awards ceremony at the May Fair Hotel in London. It was also named runner up in the Transport & Logistics category of the annual awards, organised by Family Business United.

The company, which gives 10% of profits to charitable causes, was founded in Holborn in London in 1945 by Rob’s grandfather Raoul, but has had its base in Buckinghamshire since 1972, and today employs more than 60 people across a number of highly skilled disciplines including sales, marketing, food technology and warehousing.

Paul Andrews, Founder and Managing Director of Family Business United (‘FBU’), explains: “RH Amar was founded by Raoul Amar, the grandfather of the current Managing Director, Rob Amar, and the pioneering values that lead to the creation of the business have been continued through the generations to the present day where they are innovative and forward thinking.

“As a business they were the first to market canned mushrooms, Caesar salad dressing and satay sauce in the UK. Now, they work with more than 40 brands sourced from 70 suppliers across six continents.

“The judges were impressed with the long term view that the business has taken since its inception, their response to changing market conditions, strong family values and growth underpinned by progressive policies to encourage staff performance and a successful transition to the third generation.”
