Following on from a competitive pitch, Protean Design was successfully appointed to work with Budget Rent A Car and has developed a bespoke reForm Walling System which was used within the 81 sq.m retail space at Stansted Airport. The initial brief was supplied by airport operator BAA, which was to create an open and stylish car hire booking centre visually in keeping with the whole ‘Onward Travel’ segment and making the rental experience as easy and welcoming as possible for its customers.
The first phase of the project was completed in August 2008 and it has been a great success. Following on from this BAA has now commissioned another system from Protean Design for Gatwick airport.
The installation provided by Protean Design meets the guidelines and forms part of an on-going redevelopment of the retail space at Stansted Airport. Speed of installation and ability to change the graphics to support seasonal changes were also crucial elements within the decision making process.
A highly flexible rapid lining system with a skeletal aluminium construction, reForm can be fully clad with rolled or straight skins, flat mounted to the frame with a unique and patented concealed fixing. The reForm System’s standard composite aluminium panels can be directly printed on with high quality graphic images or supplied prefinished with a hard wearing polyester coating. It offers fast, clean and dry installation of straight or cost effective curved walls for the creation of flexible and stylish internal retail environments.
The reForm System is also capable of coping instantly with rapid reconfigurations and use of space within the airport’s fast-paced and growing retail area. Budget’s special deals and seasonal graphics can be refreshed instantly with reForm’s composite aluminium panels, which can be removed easily, and newly branded panels clicked into place. This allows the airport to create enticing and exciting new retail environments in hours.
The system was pre fabricated off site, which made it cost effective and simple to install. It provided a “shop in a box” format featuring reconfigurable walling with curved walls within a complex integrated services installation.
Although the Protean team offer a range of stock components, they can also deliver reForm to any practicable module(s) to suit each particular venue or design needs, either with minimal fixing to the fabric of the building or, free-standing or with showcase inserts – a true system with endless design possibilities.
