brc3.jpgRetaining, and formally acknowledged for taking the British Retail Consortium’s (BRC) protocol further than required, Midlands based multi temperature supply chain specialist in storage and logistics, Oakland International Limited, has again passed the BRC audit for storage and distribution with flying colours, only a minor non compliance preventing Oakland from receiving a totally “clean” audit.

The BRC standard is essential for all companies working within the food service industry. Speaking on behalf of Oakland’s jubilant QA team, Quality Assurance Manager Louise Smith said: “We’re over the moon. Oakland’s insistence on high standards and the team’s real dedication has maintained our BRC accreditation.”

Internationally recognised as the ‘global standard’ for storage and distribution, the standard covers environment standards, operating systems, traceability, layout, product flow and incorporates handling requirements of specified materials.

Oakland’s Operations Director Paul Ziolek said: “Retaining this prestigious global standard is positive testament for our customers that they are dealing with a specialist multi temperature supply chain business, ranked amongst the very best.”

A rigorous daylong audit, completed by leading international food safety and assurance company CMi plc, included inspection of the firm’s processes, quality management systems and overall factory environmental standards.

Attaining BRC standard enables the company to retain existing customers and attract interest from new global business markets.

Introduced in 1998 in response to industry needs, the BRC Global Standard – Storage and Distribution was introduced in August 2006 and is regarded as the benchmark for best practice in the industry. Its use both  in and outside the UK has seen it evolve into a Global Standard, used not just to assess retailer suppliers, but as a framework upon which countless businesses have based their supplier assessment programmes and the manufacture of a number of branded products.

Said Paul: “With our dedicated QA department overseeing all Oakland’s operations, our customers are secure in the knowledge that we have the capability, completing the chain as we do between the manufacture and the end retailer. Oakland’s team constantly produce high levels of service, they react quickly and provide customers with the level of flexibility that they need, when they need it. BRC recognition is acknowledgement of the 100 per cent effort everyone at Oakland puts in each and every day, not only when we have an audit.”

Oakland, recognised as a key player within its sector, offer a complete supply chain management solution for frozen, chilled and ambient product, and work with an extensive range of co-packing support services.
