In the spirit of Christmas, Aldi has offered a mistletoe ‘Olive Branch’ of peace to supermarket Marks and Spencer.

After a turbulent year for the relationship between the two supermarket rivals, the Aldi team in Skegness unveiled a 10ft mistletoe structure with an invitation to ‘kiss and make up’ with the neighbouring M&S store.

Looking to transcend ‘Caterpillargate’ and the ‘Gin Wars’, the Skegness Aldi team created the gesture, featuring over 100 mistletoe plants, and an offer to join the team in neutral ground between the stores for a Christmas carol and one of Aldi’s award-winning mince pies.

The move follows this weekend’s social media row which saw Aldi proclaim its ‘Ginnocence’ as M&S launched legal action against them for the second time this year after claiming their festive glitter globe gin was too similar to their own.

Skegness Aldi Store Manager, Ryan Rushen, said of the invitation: “It’s been a tricky year for everyone so we didn’t want to end it on a sour note with our neighbours.  Hopefully, our little gesture will show that there are no hard feelings from our side, and to have a good Christmas, you need to be kind. We are yet to hear back from them however.”
