McCormick & Company, Incorporated (NYSE: MKC), a global leader in flavour, is disrupting the Mexican retail food category in the UK by partnering with Herdez to launch Mexico’s number one salsa brand. Herdez is an authentic Mexican brand and family-run business, based in Mexico City, with 100 years of heritage.

The partnership comes in response to consumer appetite for more authentic Mexican products and flavour offerings in a market currently dominated by Tex-Mex. As the world’s fourth largest cuisine, the Mexican category is buoyant with 19% year-on-year growth and a market value of £228m*. The rise of cooking from scratch, discovering new world cuisines and meal inspiration means Herdez is the perfect new entry to shake up the category with its bold and authentic flavours.

The portfolio of products available, including meal kits, salsas and seasonings, will be launched exclusively in Tesco on 28th June 2022. The product selection will provide consumers with the inspiration and flavours they need to enjoy and celebrate the true flavours of Mexico at home, from sampling the aromatic seasoning of Oaxaca on the West coast, to immersing in the lively flavours of the Yucatan on the East coast and experiencing the classic street tacos of Mexico City.

Chris Nelson, VP Marketing EMEA, comments: “There is currently a big gap in the market for authentic Mexican flavours and this collaboration will help ignite the already growing category. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Herdez, and to offer UK consumers something fresh, new and exciting.”

Valentin Martinez Gama, VP International Markets Grupo Herdez, adds: “We are a truly Mexican brand with a rich history. We are delighted to offer UK consumers authentic products through our partnership with McCormick, to give them a real taste of Mexico and inspire their cooking at home.”

Herdez will have a presence at the Barcode Festival on 7th July 2022, a fundraising event by GroceryAid, the charity for the grocery industry. Consumers will be able to sample the products firsthand, alongside a variety of different retailers. Herdez will then be touring the UK to offer consumers the authentic taste of Mexico.
