The new J2 615 integrated touchscreen computer offers SSD storage as standard, and resets the benchmark for price, low maintenance and performance.
J2 Retail Systems, a specialist manufacturer of PC-based touchscreen EPoS, LCD touchscreen monitors and point-of-sale hardware to the retail, hospitality and leisure industries, has beaten its competitors to market with the first EPoS system to contain Solid State Drives (SSD Storage) as standard.
In common with all J2 models, the J2 615 was designed by the company’s inhouse Research & Development team. It uses the new Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor and Intel chipset to provide a versatile touchscreen computer that delivers faster performance and a level of reliability so far unknown in the market, at a low cost of ownership.
Says Norm Campbell, J2 Retail Systems’ Chief Technology Officer and creator of the J2 615: “An SSD works just like a hard disk drive. Its big advantages are reliability, as there are no moving parts to wear out, and its speed of reading from and writing to disk.”
Adds J2 Retail Systems co-founder and Managing Director, Moray Boyd: “This landmark computer is perfect for both thick and thin client applications. Its performance and cost-efficiency are unbeatable, and we expect it to achieve market leadership within six months in targeted vertical sectors.”
To get maximum reliability, all moving parts have been eliminated. The J2 615 features convection cooling that requires no fan, so can offer silent performance, superior heat dissipation and low energy consumption.
Continues Boyd: “This machine will be virtually maintenance-free, with a MTBF (mean time between failures) rate measured in tens of years! It’s a durable EPoS device that will be tough enough for the harshest of environments.
“No software needs to be changed to replace a traditional drive with Solid State. With decreasing costs, outstanding reliability and brilliant performance, SSD drives will soon become the dominant storage medium for POS computers. At J2, we are proud to be leading the field.”
The J2 615 can support all Microsoft Windows Embedded operating systems. An ELO touch controller and the 15” ELO resistive touchscreen give what J2 describes as “unmatched touch responsiveness and reliability”. Four external USB 2.0 ports and four external serial ports provide multiple connectivity options.
J2’s unique ‘all in the head’ design enables the J2 615 to be used as a countertop or wall/pole-mounted computer in the same unit, making it the ideal choice for space-conscious retail or hospitality businesses.
A small carbon footprint is a further attribute of the J2 615. This new model also comes with built-in RoHS and WEEE-compliance and a full 3-year parts & labour warranty; features that are common to the J2 product range.
Concludes Norm Campbell: “In terms of cost and performance, the SSD is a real step forward. The time has now arrived for SSD technology to be deployed in the EPoS environment to give complete media reliability.”
