Working closely with supporters, GroceryAid has drafted a code of practice describing what good looks like when retailers run an event on behalf of charities. The “GroceryAid Principles of Good Practice” has been completed with assistance from Asda, Sainsbury’s, Marks and Spencer, Tesco, Waitrose and Morrisons.

Steve Barnes, GroceryAid, Chief Executive

Steve Barnes, Chief Executive noted: “These principles have been drawn up working closely with a selection of our retail and supplier supporters. We are confident that by following these best practice guidelines, retailers will run charity events that are GSCOP friendly. The best practice document may have a boring title but let me assure anyone who is interested, it is mercifully short.”

Christine Tacon, Groceries Code Adjudicator added, “I’m pleased that organisations such as GroceryAid are working with retailers to consider how any activities they undertake are compliant with the Groceries Supply Code of Practice.”

The principles are designed to be compliant with paragraph nine of the Groceries Supply Code of Practice: “Payments as a condition of being a supplier.” A full set of guiding principles are available to anyone who would like to see them at www.groceryaid.org.uk/news/principles-goodpractice/
