Thornton & Ross Ltd, the largest independent pharmaceutical manufacturer in the UK, have been using PET products supplied by Graham Packaging Plastics for over 10 years and turned to the Chalgrove based company when they wanted a new 200ml PET bottle for their flagship brand Hedrin, the largest head lice brand in the UK and Europe.
The Hedrin brand had, for many years, been packaged in an HDPE bottle in a smaller size and the decision was made for the new 200ml bottle to be made from PET, using a specific master batch, which improved bottle handling and line performance on the filling line.
Thornton & Ross, established in 1922, are now a third generation private company employing some 350 staff. From its base in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire the company supplies an extensive range of healthcare products as well as disinfectants and household products. The Thornton & Ross product names include many of the leading brands in their field such as Covonia, Asilone, Setlers, Transvasin and Mycota as well as Zoflora, the UK ‘s leading disinfectant. Our picture shows the Pouxit variant of Hedrin, which is sold in France.
Hedrin is a breakthrough treatment for head lice. It is the first non-pesticide to gain a licence in the UK for the eradication of head lice. Hedrin is odourless, kind to the skin and hair and is not absorbed by the skin. It is easy to use and is suitable for the whole family from the age of six months upwards.
The brief to Graham Packaging from Thornton & Ross was to supply a 200ml size PET bottle, which would be a safe and practical bottle for use in the bathroom by the whole family.
Simone Gill, Account Manager at Graham Packaging said, “We have had a great relationship with Thornton & Ross for over ten years. When given the brief for a new family sized 200 ml bottle, which had to have the same look and feel as its smaller cousin, we were ready for the challenge and very pleased to be associated with the launch of the addition to this flagship brand.”
