- Iceland has honoured Nick Poppleton, a delivery driver from its Fox Valley store in Sheffield, whilst he competes against the world’s best golfers in The Open Championship
- The supermarket has re-branded a delivery van from Nick’s home store with a message of support to cheer him on during the four-day tournament
Iceland is sending a message of support to one of its delivery drivers who will compete against some of the world’s best golfers at The Open Championship at Royal St George’s Golf Course this weekend. The frozen food retailer has re-branded one of its delivery vans with a personalised message to cheer on Nick Poppleton, a colleague from its Fox Valley store in Sheffield.
After taking a step back from his professional golfing career to support his family during the Covid-19 pandemic, Nick has been working as an Iceland delivery driver at weekends, ensuring his local community has received vital groceries.
However, instead of ensuring customers get their tea this weekend, Nick has taken some time off to have his own, teeing it up with elite golfers such as Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau during his practice rounds at The Open, after winning a qualifying event for the tournament.
Nick said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be competing at The Open this weekend. It’s going to mean less driving around the streets of Sheffield to deliver groceries and more driving the fairways on the links but knowing that I have Iceland’s support is great and it will definitely help to settle my nerves on the first tee.”
