Co-op has received the Corporate Brand Ambassador Award at the 2019 Shining Stars Ball for its enthusiastic and consistent support of Girls Out Loud, a social enterprise which has raised the aspirations of over 7,000 teenage girls and helped them to build confidence, self-belief and resilience.
Co-op was praised for supporting the Big Sister mentoring programme financially and by nominating inspiring female employees to be Big Sisters. The organisation was also recognised for always stepping up when needed, be it through providing products for prizes and goodie bags or offering space as a venue for meetings or training.
Jo Whitfield, CEO of Co-op Food said: “We are so proud to support Girls Out Loud and it’s a huge honour to win the award. The young women that Girls Out Loud works with are our next generation of talent and it’s absolutely vital that we invest in them.”
Whitfield, an ambassador for Girls Out Loud, was also nominated for the Top Female Role Model Award, sponsored by Pladis Global, for being a champion of women in her sector and beyond. The nominees in this category were all recognised for standing out in their sector for their achievements, hard work, resilience and passion.
Co-op recently welcomed a group of Year 9 girls, who have been participating in Girls Out Loud’s Big Sister mentoring programme, to their support centre in Manchester. From career talks to workshops, the visit raised the aspirations of the girls who attended and helped each individual to understand their potential.
“Co-op continues to be a massive advocate of our work,” added Jane Kenyon, founder and CEO of Girls Out Loud. “The team consistently aligns with Girls Out Loud’s mission and supports our work with enthusiasm, passion and resources, both physically and financially.”
More than 300 people gathered at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester to celebrate the achievements of the many companies and schools involved with Girls Out Loud, and also raised vital funds for future projects.
