“HI, I’M BARRY SCOTT” – unless you were hiding under a rock in the early 2000s, you were sure to have been deafened by Barry Scott and his Cillit Bang adverts.
The classic bleach commercials featured Barry’s over-enthusiastic sales pitch, shouting about cleaning products until the cows came home.
Barry hasn’t been on TV for a while – but now a start up cereal company has decided to bring him back. Or maybe it’s his long lost brother?
High protein cereal company Surreal have launched a brand new advert, starring none other than Neil Burgess – the actor behind Barry Scott.
This time his character is called “Gary Scott” – but despite insisting that he’s “a completely new character” Gary seems suspiciously similar to Barry’s classic bleach salesman.
In the advert, Gary Scott claims to not care about dirty ovens or clean pennies – instead banging on about how Surreal is high protein and zero sugar.
Featuring raw eggs, broken blenders and more shouting than your average football match, the advert certainly delivers the message with a BANG. Or should that be “Bosh” as is Gary’s slogan?
Co-founder Jac Chetland said “A high protein cereal like ours deserves a high octane presenter, and they don’t come higher-octane than Neil. We’re absolutely buzzing that he agreed to the role, and he was such fun to work with. Any similarities to other characters in the Neil Cinematic Universe is just a coincidence.”
Surreal’s high protein cereals are available from their website, as well as Sainsbury’s, the Co-Op, Ocado and Holland and Barrett.
The Gary Scott advert was written by Surreal’s in-house team, filmed by Nusa Studios, and starred Neil Burgess and Amy Spinks.
BANG. And the press release is done.
