• Roger Burnley honoured with CBE for services to retail and feeding the nation during Covid 19 pandemic
  • Pwllheli store community Champion, Jo Scott, receives BEM for work supporting her local community

Two Asda colleagues have been recognised for their outstanding services to retail and their community by Her Majesty the Queen in her New Year’s Honours.

Roger Burnley, who served as Asda’s Chief Executive Officer until August this year and Jo Scott, who is the Community Champion at Asda’s store in Pwllheli, Wales, have both been recognised for their service during the Covid 19 pandemic.

Burnley has received a CBE in recognition of services to retail and feeding the nation whilst leading Asda. Jo has received a BEM in recognition of her work as a Community Champion in her Asda store.

The two Honours add to the recognition the supermarket has received for its colleagues’ efforts during the Covid 19 pandemic. In total, 19 Asda colleagues have now been given Honours by Her Majesty, with nine being awarded Honours in the 2021 New Year’s Honours and a further eight in her recent Birthday Honours.

Commenting on the Honours, Mohsin and Zuber Issa said; “We’re delighted and incredibly proud that once again our great business has been recognised in the New Year Honours list. We are constantly impressed by the hard work and dedication of all the team here at Asda and these Honours are well-deserved recognition – not just of Roger and Jo – but of everything everyone at Asda has done throughout the pandemic to support the communities they serve.”

Roger Burnley said; “I am incredibly proud, and humbled, by this recognition. Everyone in the UK food industry has done an amazing job against the relentless backdrop of the Covid pandemic and no one more so than our fantastic Asda colleagues, who have worked tirelessly and selflessly throughout to feed the nation.”

Jo Scott from Pwllheli store said; “We’re a really tight-knit community here and I think it’s so important to pull together and do what we can. Being a community champion is a job I absolutely love and adore and it means so much to know that people in the community appreciate what I’m able to do on behalf of Asda to nominate me for this honour.”
