Lactalis McLelland, one of the UK’s leading dairy companies, is celebrating a win of 15 medals, 3 of which were gold, as well as several products receiving the ‘Highly Commended Award’ at this year’s Nantwich International Cheese Show (28/29 July).
A total of 2,766 cheeses, a mixture of both Cheddar and continental varieties from over 20 countries were entered into the competition and were tasted by 150 cheese specialists.

The following cheeses from Lactalis McLelland were awarded gold medals at the Awards:
• Société Depuis 1863 (Abeille) received the number one accolade in the ‘Best Organic Cheese’ category. It is made in the Abeilles cave, which was first used in the 17th century, where the temperature is between 7ºC and 13ºC
• Orkney Mild White won the ‘Single Mild Cheddar Cheese – White or Coloured (UK only)’ category. Produced using the dry stir method, Orkney Cheddar is renowned for its creamy texture and mellow flavour
• The Caledonian Cheese & Co Farmhouse Whey Butter received the top prize in the ‘Two Pats Whey Butter’ category
The ‘Highly Commended Award’ was received by the following cheeses:
• Galbani Dolcelatte® Piccante in the ‘Single Blue Vein Cheese (outside UK)’ category is a full- flavoured vegetarian blue cheese which is matured for up to 90 days
• Président Light Brie in the ‘Single Reduced Fat Cheese 17- 24% Fat’ category has the same subtle, yet distinctive flavour and creamy texture of full fat brie but containing only 19% fat and 242 Kcal per 100g
• Pont de la Pierre Cantal in the ‘Best French Cheese’ category is a full-fat hard pressed cheese made from pasteurised cow’s milk and has a very distinctive, strong and fruity taste.
• Président Slightly Salted Softer Butter in the Creamery Butter category is made with the finest cream from the Normandy region in France
