Tennis champion supports launch of new Tortilla Pockets in viral social media challenge

The UK’s number one Mexican food brand, Old El Paso[1], has teamed up with British tennis icon Sir Andy Murray to support the launch of its most exciting innovation yet – Tortilla Pockets – through a unique mess-free challenge on social media.

Old El Paso Tortilla Pockets are a simple but brilliant idea – a tortilla with a sealed bottom that ensures a mess-free Mexican meal-time experience anytime, anywhere.

The multiple Grand Slam and Olympic champion puts the new mess-free Tortilla Pockets through the ultimate test in his #MessFreeChallenge in a video on his Instagram (@andymurray) and Twitter (@andy_murray) accounts, which have a combined following of 5m+.

In the video, Murray who’s also a well-known football fan, shows off another side to his impressive ball skills on the tennis court with some tennis ball keepy-uppies. All while enjoying an Old El Paso Tortilla Pocket, without any mess whatsoever. To celebrate the launch and partnership, Andy Murray and Old El Paso will also be donating 20,000 Meal Kits to FareShare to help feed UK families in need.

Maeve Judge, Marketing Manager, Old El Paso said: “Tortilla Pockets is our most exciting innovation in a decade, so we knew we needed to do something big to celebrate the launch. The #MessFreeChallenge is fun, engaging and super shareable, with an important charitable initiative at its heart.

“We’re delighted to partner with Andy to not only spread the word about Pockets as a mess-free solution to Mexican meals, but also provide crucial support to people in need across the UK through FareShare.”

James Persad, Head of Marketing for FareShare said: “We’re thrilled to have Andy Murray and Old El Paso supporting FareShare with the #MessFreeChallenge. FareShare works with thousands of charities and community groups, providing food for vulnerable people facing food poverty across the UK. Support like this helps make a real difference – thank you to everyone involved.”

Murray’s #MessFreeChallenge comes after Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios, with whom Murray famously shares a close friendship, nominated him personally to take forward the challenge globally. Launched by Kyrgios in Australia last week to support the local launch of

Tortilla Pockets, the Old El Paso #MessFreeChallenge has already been supported by several Australian athletes, including Grand Slam-winning tennis players Lleyton Hewitt and Sam Stosur, Olympic runner Genevieve Gregson, and AFLW star Tayla Harris.

With iconic names from the UK sporting world now lined up to take on the challenge and get their followers excited about Tortilla Pockets, retailers are encouraged to stock up to meet increased demand.
