The supermarket was the only retailer to win a medal at this year’s competition

One of Aldi Scotland’s newest premium Scottish gins has been awarded a gold award at The Spirits Business Global Gin Masters 2024, only seven months after the retailer announced it would be stocked in stores.

Còmhla Scottish Gin, which is priced at £19.99 for a 70cl bottle, beat of host of pricier competitors in its category for the prize.

The judges, who took part in a blind tasting, praised the gin for its “aromatic nose” which led to “freshness from the juniper, lime zest and fresh black pepper”.

Adding to Aldi Scotland’s ever-growing trophy cabinet, the retailer’s gin range has already been awarded over 25 medals at drinks competitions in the last 12 months.

Graham Nicolson, Regional Managing Director, Aldi Scotland, said: “To be the only retailer to have obtained medals within this prestigious competition, including a gold medal for our Còmhla Scottish Gin, is quite the achievement. We’re very proud that this gin is getting the recognition it deserves after only being stocked in our stores since December.

“This recognition shows we are producing world-class gins on par with premium brands for just a fraction of the price.”

Chaired by leading drinks publication The Spirits Business and a panel of leading spirits specialists, the Gin Masters seek to find and reward the finest gin brands on a world stage.
