• Aldi is showcasing its low prices by serving its award-winning Austin’s Summer Punch, in SW19’s Cannizaro Park at the Aldi Swing Ball Championships throughout this week
  • Servings cost almost £9 less than Pimm’s at this year’s Wimbledon Tennis Championships
  • Aldi’s summer tipple has recently beaten Pimm’s No.1 Cup in a blind taste by consumer champion Which?

The most famous tournament in SW19 started yesterday – not Wimbledon, but the FIRST EVER Swing Ball Championships from Aldi. Visitors of both tournaments will have one thing in common though, they can enjoy it with a cup of Summer Punch in hand. The difference? The price.

This year at Wimbledon, a cup of Pimm’s will set punters back £9.70 per 250ml serving[i]. While just across the road, in Cannizaro Park, Aldi is offering fans a welcome alternative, as it sells its Austin’s Summer Punch for just 78p per 250ml serving.

Not only is Austin’s being served for 92% less than Pimm’s at Wimbledon, but it has also been voted better tasting by consumers in the recent Which? Blind Taste Test – blowing the branded version out of the water by scoring 75%, higher than Pimm’s which received a score of 70%. Little wonder, Aldi is set to sell enough Austin’s in-store to make 2 MILLION glasses over the next fortnight. That’s more than 13 times the amount that will be sold at Wimbledon itself.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “Being awarded the highest score in the Which? Taste Test for our own-branded Summer Punch is hugely exciting for us, and it couldn’t have come at a better time as we bring The Aldi Swing Ball Championships to Cannizaro Park in Wimbledon. We hope that no matter what your budget is, you can enjoy some of that special Wimbledon magic with a good value Aldi twist.

“Challenge friends to a game, or simply come along to watch and sip on some Austin’s, just be sure to bring the energy and we want to hear plenty of cheering and encouragement!”

Running until 6.15pm on Friday this week, ten swing ball courts are free to book every day from 1pm online via Eventbrite. Each session is 45 minutes, allowing plenty of time for swing ball action followed by a refreshing cup of Summer Punch at the Austin’s Bar. Portions of strawberries and cream are also available to purchase at the bar for just 89p – a whopping 64% less than those being served at Wimbledon.

With Wimbledon now in full swing, it will no doubt have shoppers flocking to stores to stock up on Aldi’s Austin’s Summer Punch (£7.49, 70cl).

The perfect way to soak up the Wimbledon atmosphere without the cost. Head down to Cannizaro Park from 1pm – 6.15pm until Friday this week for the Aldi Swing Ball Championships.*

*Bookings for The Aldi Swing Ball Championships are strongly advised due to limited availability and can be made via Eventbrite in advance. Walk-in sessions are available on the day, subject to court availability.
