  • Aldi has been named Multiple Wine Retailer of the Year at the Drinks Retailing Awards 2021
  • This is the second title Aldi has scooped within a week after being named Drinks Retailer of the Year at the Retail Industry Awards last week

Aldi has won the prestigious ‘Multiple Wine Retailer of the Year’ award at the Drinks Industry Awards 2021 as part of a virtual ceremony on 2nd February. The supermarket beat both Waitrose and Morrisons to the top spot.

Judges praised Aldi for its impressive sales, which “have gone from strength to strength, shooting up by more than +30% in 2020 – the biggest uplift in sales out of all of the supermarkets.”

The wide range of Aldi’s wines were also noted, including its Lebanese wine, Ice Cava and Super Tuscan, which has been compared to Meghan Markle’s favourite wine – but costing £90 less. Judges also commended Aldi’s premium range of wines and in particular its online only Classic Icons wine range, which has been enhanced over the past year.

The award is the second Aldi has picked up for its drinks range within a week after scooping ‘Drinks Retailer of the Year’ at the Retail Industry Awards on 26th January.

This latest win adds to the 103 accolades awarded to Aldi’s beers, wines and spirits over the past 12 months including Favourite Wine Retailer from Good Housekeeping Food Awards.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of buying at Aldi UK comments:“This award win is testament to the care and effort that goes into ensuring every wine Aldi’s shelves is of the highest quality. The buying team together with our handpicked, incredible suppliers, bring fabulous products to our shoppers at great value.

“It’s fantastic to see that not only are our customers happy with Aldi’s products, but awarding bodies are also echoing this.”
