Important news for everybody maintaining hygiene standards in supermarkets and the grocery trade throughout the UK and Europe is the launch of Activeion ionator EXP™, Europe’s first handheld tap-water ioniser, a completely chemical-free cleaning tool that ionises and converts tap water into ionised water. The ionised water that sprays out when you squeeze the trigger has been proven to kill 99.9% of common bacteria plus the H1N1 Type A 2009 swine ‘flu virus on hard non-porous surfaces.
This remarkable new tool looks like, and is slightly larger than, a conventional trigger-spray bottle. You simply fill it with half a litre of tap water, with no added chemicals. When the trigger is pressed, a 12V diaphragm pump starts a continuous flow of water. The tap water passes through a water cell that applies a small electrical charge, ionising the water, after which it goes through an ion-exchange membrane and is separated into an oxygen-rich mixture of positively and negatively charged nano-bubbles. The ionised water breaks down dirt from most surfaces including glass, stainless steel, wood, carpet, natural stone, marble and clothing. In fact, it can replace many general-purpose chemical cleaners commonly used for these types of surfaces throughout the supermarket and grocery trade.
Activeion ionator EXP™ is extremely effective for cleaning large areas of glass, stainless steel fittings, shelving, areas around cash registers, display cabinet doors and handles – in fact, all the surfaces that routinely get soiled and where pathogens can accumulate. There is no residual smell and no sticky residue.
Independent lab certifies antimicrobial action
Independent third-party lab results certify that, when used as directed, the Activeion ionator EXP™ kills 99.9% of harmful common bacteria such as E. Coli, E. Coli O157:H7, VRE, Pseudomonas, Salmonella, Staph, MRSA, and Listeria, and the 2009 H1N1 influenza A swine ‘flu virus in just six seconds. With the Activeion ionator EXP™, grocery and supermarket staff everywhere can save time, reduce costs, and protect both the environment and people from potentially harmful chemicals.
A sustainability study, co-authored by Professor Jack Geibig, director of the Center for Clean Products at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, USA, and the environmental sustainability group EcoForum, compared Activeion products with traditional cleaning detergents across seven critical environmental and health categories. In every environmental category – energy consumption, ozone production, smog, acids, eutrophication (water pollution caused by plant nutrients), particulates and greenhouse warming gases – the benefit of switching to Activeion for cleaning was greater than 97 percent.
André G. Krell, General Manager, Activeion (Europe) GmbH makes the point that a third of the cleaning chemicals used today have ingredients that can harm you. These ingredients are in products for cleaning glass, washroom fixtures, metal, kitchens, carpets, hard floors and many other surfaces. According to the SafeWorkers organisation* in the UK, there are around 100,000 different potentially harmful substances recognised across Europe.
Huge success in US food retail and catering industries
Activeion ionator EXP™ has already achieved major success in the USA and Canada, and is routinely used by several major food retailing groups, hotel chains, and holiday resorts.
In Port Townsend, Washington State, Briar Kolp, General Manager of The Food Co-op is an enthusiastic user of the Activeion ionator EXP™:
“We always strive to reduce our impact on the environment,” she said. “It wasn’t until we found the Activeion Pro that we knew how effective and easy this could really be. It’s just so simple: we spend less time tracking inventory, mixing cleaning solutions and training employees.” She also notes that surfaces stay dust-free for longer.
In New York, Just Salad, founded in 2005 as a deli-style, salad-only concept restaurant chain, now has four restaurants in Manhattan, plus one in Hong Kong. Co-founder Nick Kenner is enthusiastic about Activeion ionator EXP™:
“I’d recommend the Activeion Pro to all my peers in the restaurant industry who need to keep their establishments clean and safe. I love this product.”
Switching to a chemical-free way
“It’s time to switch to a completely chemical-free way to clean that also protects” said André G. Krell. “Our certified tests show how well our products perform on various test micro-organisms under a six second spray period at approximately 7 to 10 centimetres away. A quick spray cleans dirt and eliminates bacteria, improving health all around.”
Marketed and sold by Activeion (Europe) GmbH, based in Baden, Switzerland, the new Activeion ionator EXP™ (www.activeion.com) is available now at just €269, excluding VAT and shipping – prices in other currencies are calculated at the daily listed foreign exchange rate.
