Tesco has announced a major update to selected store car parks this Easter as an extra help for the four in ten (42%) Brits who admit to escaping to the supermarket, just to get a few minutes to themselves. The supermarket will launch limited edition, specially designed Park & Pause bays on Saturday 11th April, where visitors can park up and be treated to a free Tesco Finest hot drink, a biscuit and a much-needed breather during their busy days.
The Park & Pause bays come as new research from Tesco reveals that parents of children under four are the most likely to offer to do a Tesco dash simply to get some alone time (68%) – almost twice as likely as those without kids (38%). Despite enjoying spending time with their brood, the majority of parents (71%) admit the holidays can take their toll, with a quarter (24%) agreeing it’s especially stressful when the weather is bad and they are stuck at home.
With several weeks off school, it can be hard to keep the whole family happy – parents struggle to keep children entertained (48%), juggle work and childcare (34%) and organise egg hunts and fun Easter activities (22%). In fact, by the last weekend of the Easter holidays, most parents (71%) are ready for their kids to return to school or childcare and say they could do with a holiday after the holiday (64%).
The supermarket can be the perfect place to escape from day-to-day life, either for a solo trip or a mooch with family, as shoppers peruse new products or special offers (43%), grab a snack, coffee or treat while they’re there (38%) or enjoy a small change of scenery (27%).
It seems a quick breather can have a big impact as Tesco’s research shows that on average, people begin to feel revived and restored after just fourteen minutes to themselves – even five minutes is enough for a fifth of the nation to feel the benefit!
But getting a moment’s peace can be trickier than you’d think. Over half of Brits (59%) have come up with a creative reason to leave the house, with top excuses including taking the bins out (23%), going to get petrol (19%) or grabbing a made-up ingredient for dinner (19%) to enjoy a few minutes of alone time.
As many parents know, even getting time for a hot drink can be a challenge and most admit they’d love just five minutes during the holidays to enjoy a cup of tea before it goes cold (66%). To bring a moment of micro-joy to life, Tesco ambassadors will hand-deliver a perfectly brewed cuppa to car windows at the Park & Pause bays, available between 8am and 5pm on Saturday 11th April at ten store locations across the UK. Whether taking a solo pause or having a break with your brood, the Park & Pause bays are open for everyone who needs a little refresh.
The Park & Pause spaces have been launched to support Tesco’s brand new “Need anything from Tesco?” campaign which highlights the ways Tesco goes above and beyond for its customers. The spaces will be marked with a stopwatch symbol, indicating that it is a place to pause and gather your thoughts before heading into store, continuing your day or going back home.
The “Need anything from Tesco?” campaign shows how Tesco is there to help the nation get the groceries they need, and so much more. As part of the campaign, Tesco highlights free nappies for premature babies, free fruit and veg for schools and ways to make money go further with Clubcard Reward partners on everything from meals out and holidays abroad to £2.50 cinema tickets.
The Park & Pause spaces coincide with the Quiet Hour already in place at larger Tesco stores every Wednesday and Saturday mornings between 9am and 10am. For some people the shopping trip can be stressful and these hours help those looking for a calmer place to shop.
