As a long-standing advocate of fair and ethical trading, Central Co-op is thrilled to celebrate 30 years of Fairtrade this Fairtrade Fortnight and, as one of the first advocates of Fairtrade products, 30 years of co-ops supporting the movement. The ethical retailer is pulling out all the stops to mark this occasion with 30 exclusive Member offers in Central Co-op stores, each offer representing one year of support for ethical and sustainable trade.
This year, to celebrate 30 years of Fairtrade, Central Co-op is bringing its Members fantastic deals across its Fairtrade range to help encourage shoppers to “Be the Change” and support farmers and producers worldwide.
Among 30 Fairtrade classics like tea, coffee, chocolate, rice and cotton pads, other ethical and tasty highlights include the introduction of the brand-new Co-op Irresistible Fairtrade Caribbean Golden Rum, exclusively available in co-op shops for the first time this Fairtrade Fortnight. For just £20, Central Co-op Members can savour this smooth, ethically sourced rum while making a real difference to farming communities.
As part of the festivities, Central Co-op Members are invited to a special virtual wine-tasting event, joining Fairtrade wine expert Ed Robinson and Walter Carol from La Riojana, Argentina’s largest wine co-operative, for an exclusive online tasting session. Taste and learn about Co-op’s Fairtrade wine selection, including Co-op Irresistible Fairtrade Malbec and Co-op Fairtrade Pinot Grigio, and discover the powerful impact Fairtrade makes in communities around the world. Plus, attendees have the chance to win a bottle of each featured wine!
Members can make the most of this event with 15% off when you buy 4 Fairtrade wines, including customer favourites like Co-op Irresistible Fairtrade Malbec, Co-op Fairtrade Pinot Grigio, Shiraz and Chardonnay – stock up and toast to a fairer glass.
Central Co-op is also proud to introduce the UK’s very first 100% Fairtrade-certified macadamia nut product, available in delicious flavours like salt-roasted and cinnamon caramelised. The retailer’s work alongside the Malawi Federation of Co-operatives (MAFECO) and co-operative farmers through its Our Malawi Partnership has made this achievement possible.
With nearly 70% of UK adults purchasing Fairtrade products in the past year[1], there’s never been a better time to “Be the Change.” As climate concerns and rising costs continue to affect global food production, supporting Fairtrade ensures that farmers receive fair wages and secure better futures for their communities.
Fairtrade Fortnight is not only a celebration but a call to action. Central Co-op has proudly championed Fairtrade for 30 years, and encourages its colleagues, Members and customers to come together in making a positive difference. By choosing Fairtrade products, shoppers can support ethical trading practices that benefit farmers and their communities globally.
Together, we can create a fairer, more sustainable future.
