It’s often taken for granted and yet water is a vital resource that is essential to keep things running smoothly in the retail world.

Jo Dow, Chief Executive, Business Stream

Managing water consumption effectively is more important than ever before and by using water wisely businesses can save money, reduce their energy use and help protect the environment.

In Scotland, businesses have been able to choose their water supplier since 2008, which has helped to reduce bills, improve customer service levels and deliver environmental efficiencies. In April 2017 the English retail water market opened to deliver similar benefits to businesses. This now means that all non-household customers operating in Scotland and England can choose their supplier and get a better deal for their water.

Business Stream, one of the largest suppliers in the UK, has over ten years of experience operating in a competitive market – longer than anyone else. Following the opening of the English market, it has become the UK-wide supplier to a wide range of food and drink retailers, including a number of large multi-site retailer customers such as Morrisons, as well as smaller businesses the length and breadth of the UK.

In the past ten years Business Stream has helped its business and public sector customers save over 38 billion litres of water – the equivalent of nearly half a billion bathtubs of water! This has also generated almost £75 million of financial savings and over 66,000 tonnes of CO2 savings. To build on this momentum, the retailer recently announced ambitious plans to help its customers reduce their water consumption by 20%.

The newly opened English market provides real opportunities for food and drink retailers to work with suppliers such as Business Stream to get more for their water and benefit from lower bills and greater environmental efficiencies – so if you haven’t explored this already then what are you waiting for?
