FOLLOWING the success of its vegan and chicken rolls, Wall’s Pastry has expanded its product line with the development of its first microwave range, which is set to launch in selected Tesco stores across the UK from the 16 November 2020.

The range, designed specifically to be heated in a microwave, is a modern twist on the brand’s traditional slices, and showcases flavours from around the world, featuring a Mexican Chicken Fajita Slice and a Chilli Beef Burrito Slice as the first two products in the range. The slices can be consumed both at home and on-the-go making them an ideal quick and convenient snack and a great lunchtime alternative.

Mike Holton, brand manager at Wall’s Pastry said: “The microwave slices were developed to fit seamlessly into busy lives, they make the perfect lunch for those working both in the office and at home, and will be an easy satisfying meal alternative for teenagers and students. We wanted to create products that offer new and exciting flavours from around the world, while also providing a tasty product that could be heated and consumed quickly for those that are on-the-go.”

This new product development follows the launch of the Wall’s Pastry healthier chicken range, which took place earlier this year including roast dinner inspired rolls and a Chicken Scotch Egg. Wall’s Pastry also successfully launched its plant-based vegan range last year after it saw a rise in demand from flexitarian consumers.

The microwave slices have been developed by Addo Food Group and are designed to be heated in the microwave but can also be consumed straight off the shelf.

The Mexican Chicken Fajita Slice is made with pieces of succulent chicken and mature cheddar cheese blended with mixed peppers, smoked paprika, cumin, chilli and a hint of garlic. The 180g slice has 21.6g of protein, 13.5g of fat and contains 432 calories.

Both slices are wrapped in the Wall’s Pastry’s extra-tasty pastry, with the Chilli Beef Burrito Slice filled with tender beef and fresh red peppers with a blend of smoked paprika, chipotle and jalapeno spicing. The 180g Chilli Beef Burrito slice contains 15g of protein, 12.4g of fat and 382 calories.

Mike added: “Following a programme of extensive consumer research, which unveiled an overwhelmingly positive response to the micro range products, and after seeing the success of our healthier chicken and vegan rolls, we wanted to continue expanding our snacking range to respond to the increasing consumer demand for products featuring world flavours, provide healthier options and ultimately challenge the traditional options and flavour profiles in the category.

“We’re really excited to be launching a new microwave range that provides a quick, hot snacking alternative, and most importantly, really delivers on taste when heated in a microwave. Whether it’s a working from home lunch, a satisfying snack at work or a quick meal on-the-go, we want to offer a convenient snack to consumers who are looking for a tasty and flavoursome fridge staple for those hungry moments.”

The range will be available at selected stores across the UK with plans to expand the range next year.
