• KitKat V features crispy wafer fingers covered with smooth chocolate blended with plant-based ingredients
  • Vegan by design, the four finger treat will hit stores later this year

There will soon be a new plant-based way to have a break, as Nestlé announces the launch of a vegan KitKat. Arriving in the UK this year, KitKat V features smooth chocolate blended with plant-based ingredients to perfectly balance the brand’s trademark crisp wafer.

KitKat V was developed by chocolatiers and food scientists in Nestlé’s Research and Development centre in York, the original home of KitKat. The team worked hard to design a vegan alternative that would live up to the high expectations of KitKat lovers everywhere.

Louise Barrett, Head of the Nestlé Confectionery Product Technology Centre in York said: “Taste was a priority when developing the plant-based chocolate for our new vegan KitKat. We used our expertise in ingredients, together with a test and learn approach, to create a delicious vegan choice for KitKat fans.”

Alex Gonnella, Marketing Director for Nestlé Confectionery said: “We have seen an incredible response to our vegan friendly Fruit Pastillessince their launch last year, so we know how much people want to enjoy alternative versions of their favourite treats.

“The most common request we see on social media is for a vegan KitKat, so we’re delighted to be able to make that wish come true. I can’t wait for more people to try it; we think it tastes amazing!”

Nestlé is helping people embrace more plant-based food, with options across its wide range of food and beverages. Aside from plant-based food, Nestlé has also launched dairy-free coffee mixes and last year introduced Carnation Vegan condensed milk.

Alex Gonnella added: “There is a quiet food revolution underway that is changing how people eat. We want to be at the forefront of that, championing the discovery of plant-based food and beverages.

What better proof of that than offering a plant-based version of one of our oldest and most famous brands? The new KitKat V means people can enjoy a delicious vegan option when they have a break.”

KitKat V is certified vegan by the ‘Vegan Society’. Like the rest of the KitKat range, it is made from 100% sustainable cocoa, sourced through the Nestlé Cocoa Plan in conjunction with the Rainforest Alliance.

KitKat V will be available in the UK later this year. In the meantime, fans not following a plant-based diet can enjoy the new dark and white chocolate KitKat Zebra, which is available now.

The number of vegans in Great Britain quadrupled between 2014 and 2019. In 2019 there were 600,000 vegans, compared with 150,000 in 2014*.
