PEPPERIDGE FARM, the USA’s top-selling premium biscuit brand, has been launched in the UK. Pepperidge Farm has made its first move into the £1.5 billion sweet biscuits market with the launch of soft-baked cookies in Oatmeal Raisin and Dark Chocolate Chunk Brownie varieties. Pepperidge Farm cookies have been launched in the UK by Jenks Sales Brokers and have already achieved a major breakthrough with a listing in Tesco stores. Steve Foster, UK Manager for Pepperidge Farm, said the launch was being strongly supported by national consumer sampling and advertising.
“Pepperidge Farm uses the finest-quality ingredients to produce delicious cookies that are enjoyed throughout the USA and exported to more than 50 countries,” he said. “The rich, flavoursome soft-baked cookies have a home-made style, are made with wholesome ingredients and inspired by favourite family recipes. These melt-in-the-mouth cookies really are delicious.”
The UK launch is clearly a very significant move for the company and one that will undoubtedly bring excitement and a fresh impetus to a sweet biscuits market that is currently growing by 2.2% per annum. Pepperidge Farm is a massive international brand, operating seven state-of-the-art bakeries throughout America and achieving annual sales in excess of $1.4 billion. Established in 1937, Pepperidge Farm has, since 1961, been a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Campbell Soup Company.
Pepperidge Farm has carefully selected two of its best-selling soft-baked cookies to spearhead its move into the UK market and is planning to introduce further products soon. In the US market, soft-baked cookies have shown impressive sales growth of more than 20% over the past three years and Steve Foster believes that the UK market is set to follow this trend.
Pepperidge Farm Oatmeal Raisin and Dark Chocolate Chunk Brownie cookies are premium-quality, long-life products that are presented in stylish, eye-catching 244g packs. They will retail at around £1.89.
A strong programme of support for Pepperidge Farm will include magazine and national press advertising plus consumer sampling at stores, food shows and major events.
